Army Basic Training Graduation Ceremonies
YOUR SERVICE IN THE ARMY CAN BE THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE.
It can be the worst too, if you don't know what you're doing or you're not careful.
Recruits and soldiers get "chaptered" out of the service all of the
time - constantly.
Ask the recruiter how high the failure rate is, but they might not tell you
how high it is.
Army Basic Training is filled with "wash-outs."
You'll see it happen during Army Basic Training.
It's awful to look into their faces as they pack up and people wish them
"good luck."
They go home with a "General Discharge", a vague discharge category that
hints of failure.
Maybe you already know one of these
"wash-outs".
They're the ones who have to go home and start making excuses why they
failed.
Its a real shame too, because lots of these guys could have been
excellent soldiers.
They just didn't know what to expect and got singled out right off the
bus.
These guys brought Frisbees, radios,
footballs, and magazines with them and made
a bad impression right from the start. Some people had weird items
like
hair dryers and condoms with them. Where did these people think
they were
going? Other geniuses had knives, tobacco, or pornography with them.
Great start..
Some people weren't that dumb, but
they made innocent mistakes like
buying a
padlock that used keys instead of a combination. They lost the keys and suffered
the wrath of a drill instructor cutting off the lock on their wall locker.
Other guys didn't
have a plain nylon, Velcro wallet to protect their Military ID. The
ID either got lost
or mostly it fell apart. Since you show the ID at every meal, a
dirty, ratty ID is
easy to spot
and a good reason to single out someone for a "smoking" A
lost ID can earn severe
punishment, so keep track of that little green card.
Maybe if the recruiter had just given them a couple of
"heads-up" on
what to expect they might have lasted longer.
Some guys had their stuff stolen either intentionally or
accidentally. Just watch the
Drill Sergeants reaction when you are two tee-shirts short during an
inspection. Other
people spent all night trying to apply enamel to the boot eyelets,
buttons, and rank.
If you take a black laundry marker, you can label your stuff and blacken

Another awful thing that happens to new
recruits is the "hold-over."
The "hold-over" is a recruit who fails a certain section of Boot
Camp
and is forced to stay
back with a different, new group of recruits.
This is more humiliating than failing a grade
in school.
It's worse than being fired from your job.
It feels like your mother forgetting your birthday.
All of your buddies move on and you get left behind.
The "hold-overs" become loners with a huge stigma attached to
them.
"What's wrong with him? How come he got held over?"
A lot of the "hold-overs" are from injuries like busted bones or wicked
muscle tears.
In my book you will see the 10 different ways to avoid foot and
ankle injuries.
You will learn that professional soldiers go prepared into any
situation. You can either wait
